A Multi-Disciplinary Team Approach
EDNurture provides targeted and holistic support for students facing various barriers to learning.
EDNurture is our dedicated area for fostering the social, emotional, and mental health of your students, particularly those with SEND, mental health needs, EHCPs, CAMHS involvement, anxiety, or any other significant barrier to academic success.
It’s a space where our specialist team works directly with these students (who are on an EDClass seat) to build resilience, discuss their wellbeing, establish positive relationships, and overcome anxieties, ultimately paving the way for a positive educational journey.
EDNurture is staffed by our UK-qualified SEND lead teachers, SENCOs, our wider SEND team, experienced PSHE teachers, resilience practitioners, and dedicated wellbeing staff.
This diverse team collaborates to provide comprehensive support, working both one-to-one and in small groups with students.
Overcoming Barriers to Learning
The primary aim of the EDNurture team is to identify and overcome the specific barriers that prevent students from achieving academic success. This involves:
Individualised Support and Flexible Learning
Recognising that each student’s needs are unique, the EDNurture sessions are highly individualised. Our team tailors their approach and the activities used based on a deep understanding of the learner’s specific requirements, including their SEND needs, mental health challenges, EHCP provisions, trauma history, anxiety levels, and overall educational and PSHE needs.
If a student is not initially ready to engage in academic learning, the nurture team works with them in small breakout classrooms to address their immediate needs and create a foundation for future learning.
A Collaborative Approach with Teaching Teams
The EDNurture team works closely with the teachers. This collaboration ensures that students receiving nurture support are effectively integrated into their subject-specific learning, with nurture staff providing insights and strategies to assist the teaching teams in meeting individual student needs within those sessions.
EDNurture sessions can be scheduled before lessons to prepare students, mid-lesson as breaks if a student feels overwhelmed, or after lessons for follow-up and reinforcement of coping strategies.
Weekly Nurture Meetings and Strategy Development
To ensure a consistent and effective approach, we hold weekly nurture meetings. These meetings bring together our nurture team to discuss individual students within their groups, particularly those with SEND, CAMHS involvement, EHCPs, trauma, and anxiety.
The focus is on sharing strategies, discussing specific needs and requirements, and developing a coordinated teaching and wrap-around service plan to provide a positive and supportive online environment for each learner.
Working Hand-in-hand with EDSafe
EDNurture operates in close collaboration with EDSafe. Any safeguarding concerns that arise during EDNurture sessions are immediately passed directly to our DSLs and DDSLs, who then liaise with parents and your school’s safeguarding team.
This seamless communication ensures that any potential safeguarding issue is addressed swiftly and effectively, without disrupting the student’s learning journey.
Complete Visibility and Enhanced Safeguarding for your Staff
Your DSLs, SEND staff, and Alternative Provision (AP) staff also have full access to these EDNurture sessions and any associated notes or communications through your platform access. Remember, just like with all other EDClass modules, you have ‘eyes on’ your students at all times they are logged into the platform.
This comprehensive visibility, including the dedicated support provided within EDNurture, demonstrates the extra levels of care and support you provide to your most vulnerable learners, which is invaluable for your Ofsted inspections.
