A Holistic Approach with EDNurture

A Multi-Disciplinary Team Approach

EDNurture provides targeted and holistic support for students facing various barriers to learning.

EDNurture is our dedicated area for fostering the social, emotional, and mental health of your students, particularly those with SEND, mental health needs, EHCPs, CAMHS involvement, anxiety, or any other significant barrier to academic success.

It’s a space where our specialist team works directly with these students (who are on an EDClass seat) to build resilience, discuss their wellbeing, establish positive relationships, and overcome anxieties, ultimately paving the way for a positive educational journey.

EDNurture is staffed by our UK-qualified SEND lead teachers, SENCOs, our wider SEND team, experienced PSHE teachers, resilience practitioners, and dedicated wellbeing staff.

This diverse team collaborates to provide comprehensive support, working both one-to-one and in small groups with students.

EDNurture

Re-engagement and Overcoming Barriers to Learning

The ultimate objective of EDNurture is not simply isolation support, but active academic re-engagement. For students suffering from severe anxiety, school phobia, trauma, or complex behavioural needs, entering a traditional or digital classroom can feel like an insurmountable hurdle.

EDNurture serves as the critical therapeutic stepping stone, working methodically to lower student arousal, build emotional security, and dismantle the psychological barriers preventing academic progress.

By guiding students through personalised self-regulation and coping strategies, EDNurture prepares and transitions the learner into live, structured academic settings. The explicit aim is to bridge the gap from welfare support to high-ambition instruction, systematically moving the student from solitary reflection into EDTeach for precision, small-group gap closing, and ultimately into EDLive for full, timetabled virtual classrooms.

This structured journey ensures that emotional vulnerabilities never permanent stall a student’s access to core and foundational curriculum learning.

Individualised Support and Flexible Learning

Recognising that each student’s needs are unique, the EDNurture sessions are highly individualised. Our team tailors their approach and the activities used based on a deep understanding of the learner’s specific requirements, including their SEND needs, mental health challenges, EHCP provisions, trauma history, anxiety levels, and overall educational and PSHE needs.

If a student is not initially ready to engage in academic learning, the nurture team works with them in small breakout classrooms to address their immediate needs and create a foundation for future learning.

A Collaborative Approach with Teaching Teams

The EDNurture team works closely with the teachers. This collaboration ensures that students receiving nurture support are effectively integrated into their subject-specific learning, with nurture staff providing insights and strategies to assist the teaching teams in meeting individual student needs within those sessions.

EDNurture sessions can be scheduled before lessons to prepare students, mid-lesson as breaks if a student feels overwhelmed, or after lessons for follow-up and reinforcement of coping strategies.

EDNurture

Weekly Nurture Meetings and Strategy Development

To ensure a consistent and effective approach, we hold weekly nurture meetings. These meetings bring together our nurture team to discuss individual students within their groups, particularly those with SEND, CAMHS involvement, EHCPs, trauma, and anxiety.

The focus is on sharing strategies, discussing specific needs and requirements, and developing a coordinated teaching and wrap-around service plan to provide a positive and supportive online environment for each learner.

How EDNurture Operates Inside EDSafe

EDNurture operates in close collaboration with EDSafe. Any safeguarding concerns that arise during EDNurture sessions are immediately passed directly to our DSLs and DDSLs, who then liaise with parents and your school’s safeguarding team.

This seamless communication ensures that any potential safeguarding issue is addressed swiftly and effectively, without disrupting the student’s learning journey.

EDNurture does not rely on passive, automated forms; it operates directly within EDSafe’s defensive monitoring perimeter and is manned live by qualified personnel.

Manned by Level 3 Trained DSLs

Every EDNurture interaction, reflection sheet, and self-reported mood score is reviewed in real time by an EDClass Level 3 trained Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).

Non-confrontational Dialogue

Dysregulated, anxious, or neurodivergent students can communicate how they feel via text or guided reflection tools. Level 3 DSLs provide calm, supportive, non-judgmental dialogue that de-escalates stress without interpersonal friction.

Seamless Level 5 Escalation

If a student's emotional check-in or written reflection reveals acute trauma, suicidal ideation, or severe safeguarding risks, the Level 3 DSL instantly escalates the case to our Level 5 Lead DSLs, initiating immediate joint multi-agency protocols with the school, MAT, or Local Authority (LA).

Complete Visibility and Enhanced Safeguarding for your Staff

Your DSLs, SEND staff, and Alternative Provision (AP) staff also have full access to these EDNurture sessions and any associated notes or communications through your platform access. Remember, just like with all other EDClass modules, you have ‘eyes on’ your students at all times they are logged into the platform.

This comprehensive visibility, including the dedicated support provided within EDNurture, demonstrates the extra levels of care and support you provide to your most vulnerable learners, which is invaluable for your Ofsted inspections.

Integration with the EDClass Mobile App

The EDClass Mobile Application extends EDNurture beyond the digital desktop, bringing real-time mental health transparency and rapid communication to all key stakeholders.

For Students

Provides a confidential, always-accessible mobile portal where pupils can log daily wellbeing scores, complete self-regulation tasks, and reach out to qualified UK safeguarding staff if they feel overwhelmed or unsafe.

For DSLs & Main Points of Contact

Delivers instant push notifications directly to school leads the moment a student flags low emotional wellbeing, misses consecutive nurture pings, or submits a concerning reflection log—eliminating pastoral delays.

For Parents and Carers

Offers parents clear, reassuring visibility over their child’s emotional progress and engagement trends, empowering families to collaborate effectively with school pastoral teams.
